The “Grünenthal Foundation” Special Professorship on Pain of the University of Salamanca came about as the result of a joint initiative between the and the in order to promote activities related to the diagnosis and treatment of pain.
The governing body of the University of Salamanca approved the creation of the Professorship in July 2000, and nominated Clemente Muriel Villoria, Professor of Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation at the University of Salamanca and, renowned expert in the field as its first Director. The professorship was officially inaugurated by an agreement between the two institutions institutions which was, signed 29th November 2000.
The Grünenthal Foundation was named Maecenas (major collaborator) of the University of Salamanca on the 20th November 2003.
The aims of the “Grünenthal Foundation” Special Professorship on Pain of the University of Salamanca are:
To lend support to specialised research into pain.
To contract temporary visiting professors of the highest quality to further teaching and research.
To create a pool of bibliographical resources in the field.
To offer fellowship grants for research into the diagnosis and treatment of pain.
To promote the organisation of training courses, conferences, symposia and other related activities concerned directly with pain.
Initiate and propose collaboration agreements with the University which relate to issues of pain.
In general, to promote initiatives which lead to social and medical awareness concerning the phenomenon of pain.
In order to meet these objectives, the University of Salamanca and the Grünenthal Foundation, through the “Grünenthal Foundation” Professorship on Pain, has launched a number of sepecific activities.
This page was first established on 2nd October 2002
